Głuchołazy to miasto w woj. opolskim, w powiecie nyskim, siedziba gminy miejsko-wiejskiej Głuchołazy.
Położone na styku Gór Opawskich(Sudety) Przedgórza Paczkowskiego (Przedgórze Sudeckie) i Płaskowyżu Głubczyckiego, nad rzeką Białą Głuchołaską.
Miasto zostało założone na początku XIII wieku, kiedy to wrocławski biskup Wawrzyniec za zgodą księcia Henryka Brodatego zlecił organizacje osadnictwa na tych terenach wójtowi Witigo.
Wydobywane w okolicy złoto przyczyniło się do szybkiego rozwoju miasta, które stało się stolicą okręgu, a podporządkowani wójtowi osiedleńcy z terenów dzisiejszych Niemiec zakładali w pobliżu nowe wsie. Na terenie gminy Głuchołazy znajduje się Park Krajobrazowy Góry Opawskie
Utworzony w 1988 r. uchwałą Wojewódzkiej Rady Narodowej w Opolu Park Krajobrazowy "Góry Opawskie" położony jest w południowo-zachodniej części województwa opolskiego, na terenie trzech gmin: Głuchołazy, Prudnik i Lubrza, przy granicy z Republiką Czeską. Obejmuje północne stoki Gór Opawskich (Sudety Wschodnie) i ich północne przedgórze.
Zajmuje powierzchnię 4.903 ha, a jego otulina 5.033 ha, zaliczany jest więc do parków średniej wielkości.
Jarnołtówek, założony przez osadnika i późniejszego pierwszego sołtysa - Arnolda, należał długo do biskupów wrocławskich. Wydobywano tu złoto, odbywały się słynne procesy czarownic. Po wojnie trzydziestoletniej wybuchła epidemia dżumy. Tę podgórską wioskę często nawiedzały powodzie. Największa miała miejsce w 1903 r. Wówczas to przybyła tu aż cesarzowa Niemiec Wiktoria Augusta.
Pokrzywna, - miejscowość wypoczynkowa u stóp Kopy Biskupiej (893m n.p.m.), cieszy się zasłużoną sławą jednej z najpiękniejszych na Opolszczyźnie. Wzniesiona w okresie międzywojennym tama na potoku spiętrzyła jego wody w dość sporym zbiorniku przeciwpowodziowym. Powstały wokół niego ośrodki wypoczynkowe. Okoliczne malownicze wzgórza pokryte są lasem mieszanym i roślinnością górską. Na łąkach kwitnie pierwiosnek wyniosły i zimowit jesienny. Jest to jedyne na Opolszczyźnie miejsce występowania brzozy czarnej. Obszar Gór Opawskich obfituje w różnorodne pod względem trudności trasy rowerowe oraz szlaki turystyczne
Góry Opawskie zajmują tak niewielką powierzchnię, że zabłądziwszy, dojdziemy niebawem do jakiejś miejscowości lub granicy państwa (często, na polach, słabo widocznej). Większość dróg leśnych prowadzi na pola, a dalej do wsi. Jednak pierwsze kroki radzę stawiać na szlakach znakowanych. Przed wycieczką dobrze jest przeczytać opis trasy, dla zorientowania się o jej długości i trudnościach.

Zabytki Głuchołaz
Kościół Świętego Rocha
Był to kościół pogrzebowy, na dawnym cmentarzu (od 1673). W czasie epidemii, szczególnie dżumy, pielgrzymowano do tego kościółka, modląc się do patrona od tej choroby. Jego powstanie datowane jest ok. 1350 (wielka epidemia "czarnej śmierci" w Europie). Na obrazie, przedstawiającym Głuchołazy rzekomo w czasie powodzi z 1460, namalowano i kaplicę św. Rocha. Rzecz w tym, ze obraz powstał w... 2 poł. XVII w. Proboszcz Eliasz Bom w swoim "Inwentarium", czyli opisie parafii zaznacza wyraźnie, że kościółek powstał w latach 1626-27 z własnych środków plebana. W tym czasie miasto nawiedziła wielka epidemia dżumy. Kościółek poświęcono latem 1628. Co tydzień odprawiana była msza św. za zmarłych, a na św. Rocha - uroczystości z procesją ulicami, gdzie zaraza zbierała największe żniwo. Fundatorzy tej mszy obdarowali proboszcza... domem z ogrodem i kawałkiem roli! Do 1866 wokół kościółka był rmentar? Podatkowo edv cmentarz bvł jeszcze wokół fary, tutaj chowano parafian ze wsi. Walący się niemal kościółek odnowił w 1860 proboszcz Bulang; remont był też kilka lat temu. Kościółek posiada cechy gotyckie (trójboczna absyda, drewniana wieżyczka z dzwonkiem, ostrołukowe okna i portal). Wnętrze różnostylowe, nakryte płaskim stropem. Ołtarz (1625) późnorenesansowy, zwieńczony Pelikanem (symbol Chrystusa), z ośmiobocznym obrazem na drzewie autorstwa SchOnfeldera, przedstawiającym Dzieciątko w ramionach Matki, powstrzymujące karzącą rękę Boga (z piorunem i młotem).
Mury obronne
znajdują się przy ul. M. Skłodowskiej-Curie (najlepiej zachowane) i obok poczty. Już w dokumencie z 1263 wspomniane są Głuchołazy i Paczków jako warownie (w Paczkowie ocalał do dziś prawie cały system umocnień). Pierwotnie miasto otoczone było wałem ziemnym z fosą i drewnianą palisadą z wieżami. Wodę do fosy doprowadzał specjalny kanał. Kolejny kanał spełniał rolę wodociągu miejskiego, co znakomicie zwiększało zagrożenie powodziowe i... epidemiczne. Wejścia strzegła Brama Dolna (Nyska, wzmiankowana w 1315, dziś nie istniejąca) i Brama Górna (obok zachowanej do dziś wieży). Obwarowania murowane, jeszcze bez baszt, postawiono ok. 1350 na polecenie bpa Przecława z Pogorzeli, znanego zresztą bardziej ze swoich zamiłowań rycerskich i myśliwskich niż z posługi duchownej. Podczas najazdu husytów mury zostały częściowo zburzone i miano je rozebrać do końca zgodnie z umową między bp wrocławskim a przywódcami husyckimi. Ostatecznie obniżono obwarowania do połowy i dopiero po 1460 dokonano odbudowy. Miasto niezbyt starało się o mury, co wskazują dokumenty z czasu kłótni z wójtem Adelsbachem. Dopiero w czasie wojny trzydziestoletniej rozbudowano umocnienia o zewnętrzne basteje, raweliny i szańce ziemne (1632). Dokument biskupa z 1472 nakazuje wójtowi Gerlachowi budowę wieży z wartownią, na co miasto miało dać drzewo. Wieża ta stała obok wójtostwa. Każdy dorosły mieszczanin miał obowiązek posiadania "mocnej długiej rury" z flaszą na proch, lontami i ołowiem. Gdy strażnik ogłosił alarm, pędzono na mury. Były specjalne bractwa samoobrony poszczególnych cechów i np. tkacze musieli dbać o proch i lonty. W 1590, gdy groził najazd turecki, zakładano bractwa strzeleckie (kurkowe).

Open Directory Project (zwany także DMoz od Directory Mozilla) to otwarty katolog stron WWW, utrzymywany na serwerach koncernu Time Warner, w którym zarówno drzewo kategorii jak i wszelkie wpisy są redagowane przez wspólnotę redaktorów - ochotników.
Otwarty Katalog założono w miesiącu czerwcu 1998 r. Początkowo nazywał się Newhoo. Jego założycielami byli Rich Skrenta i Bob Truel z Kaliforni, jako katalog o otwartej treści, redagowany przez ochotników. W roku 1998 katalog zakupiła firma Netscape i obecnie Netscape/AOL wciąż prowadzi go i udostępnia bezpłatnie.
Katalog zawiera obecnie około 4,5 miliona stron w około 750 tysiącach kategorii utworzonych i obsługiwanych przez 70 tysięcy redaktorów, w tym ponad 15 tysięcy aktywnych. W kategorii Polska jest obecnie blisko 60 tysięcy stron opublikowanych po polsku oraz 325 redaktorów - dane z lipca 2005 roku.
DMOZ klasyfikuje strony internetowe według 'kategorii'. Kategoria to według ogólnej definicji zbiorowisko rzeczy, które mają jakiś wspólny mianownik'. Na szczycie hierarchii jest 16 kategorii 'najwyższego poziomu. One są najogólniejszym poziomem klasyfikacji. Wszystkie inne kategorie są ich podkategoriami.
Wiele wyszukiwarek i portali, np. Google, a wśród polskich portali WP, pobiera co jakiś czas całą zawartość DMOZ i włącza ją w swoje katalogi. Wpisanie strony do DMOZ powoduje więc, że po pewnym czasie trafia ona wraz z właściwym opisem do wielu liczących się wyszukiwarek. Na stronach katalogu ODP nie ma żadnych reklam i projekt działa na zasadach non-profit.
ODP pozwala na nieodpłatne wykorzystanie swojej zawartości każdej osobie, która przestrzega licencji. W jednym pliku zawarte są dane na temat struktury Katalogu (np. nazwy wszystkich kategorii), a w innym - zawartość Katalogu (adresy URL, tytuły i opisy wszystkich opublikowanych stron)
Redaktorem w ODP może zostać każdy chętny. Musi jednak w swym wniosku wykazać, że posiada kwalifikacje potrzebne do prowadzenia danej kategorii. Na początku redaktorzy uzyskują zwykle prawo redagowania niewielkich kategorii. Redaktorów obowiązuje swoista etyka - nie wolno im promować stron, z którymi są osobiście związani, nie mogą odmawiać wpisów do swoich kategorii bez dobrego uzasadnienia, powinni redagować wpisy możliwie jak najbardziej obiektywnie.
Uprawnienia poszczególnych redaktorów są zróżnicowane. Redaktor szerszej kategorii (np: World:Polska:Nauka_i_edukacja) ma dostęp do wszystkich kategorii w niej zawartych np. World:Polska:Nauka_i_edukacja:Chemia. Najlepsi redaktorzy mają prawo redagowania całego katalogu, a cieszący się największym zaufaniem - prawo przyznawania innym uprawnień, a w razie naruszania przez redaktora zasad etycznych ODP, współdecydowania o odbieraniu uprawnień oraz o zasadach działania całego katalogu. Są oni nazywani metaredaktorami - obecnie jest ich około 140, w tym Władysław Majewski z Polski. W sierpniu 2004 roku większość zadań zespołu etatowego ODP przekazana została 9 metaredaktorom, zwanych adminami.
Struktura kategorii jest tworzona przez samych redaktorów. Każdy redaktor może tworzyć nowe podkategorie w obrębie redagowanej przez siebie kategorii. Zmiany nazw i przenoszenie kategorii muszą być uprzednio uzgodnione i mogą być wykonywane tylko przez redaktorów z odpowiednimi uprawnieniami. Miejscem uzgadniania takich zmian jest głównie Forum Redaktorów, do którego dostęp mają wyłącznie redaktorzy ODP.
Katalog ogólny składa się również z dwóch "podkatalogów". Jednym z nich jest dział Adult (ang. dorosły) http://dmoz.org/Adult/ gromadzący strony tylko dla dorosłych. Wejście do tej części nie jest możliwe przez linki w katalogu ogólnym, tak aby zapobiec możliwości przeglądania przez dzieci. Innym jest dział Kids and Teens (ang. dzieci i młodzież) http://dmoz.org/Kids_and_Teens/ mający na celu stworzenie najlepszego katalogu ze stronami dla dzieci i młodzieży.
